Food tech reflection

Tuesday -30/07/24

Today in our food tech class we created dishes. One was empanada and the other dish was crepe. We started with preparing the pastry for the empanada. First we created the dough, then we let it sit for 1 hour to rise up a bit. Well the dough was rising. We created our filling which had mince, potato and carrot. After our filling was done we let it cool down while we rolled out and cut out pastry shapes. After we folded the filling and pastry we cooked them in the oven for 30 minutes. Our empanadas were delicious but we were already full of yummy food from making our second dish, the crepes. The crepe mixture was very simple, Chef Mark said it was the perfect consistency. We made our crepes by moving the batter around in the pan to make the crepe thin. For the toppings on our crepes we caramelized bananas and made a mascarpone cream with added things like sugar and vanilla essence. One thing that could have improved our crepes was if we had lemon and sugar on them.

It was all delicious and I would recommend it.

Food Technology Reflection

Tuesday- 18/06/24

Today we baked two different deserts over our 4 hour lesson. We started with making peach polenta cupcakes, We created these by using the creaming method and creaming the wet ingredients, Then we folded in the dry ingredients including the peaches, Our polenta cakes turned out amazing they were fluffy and raised they also had a lovely golden brown colour on top. Some people add too much peach juice and this causes their cakes to not rise. We also made apple strudels. These did not go as smoothly as we accidentally put our oven on the grill and did not bake so the tops were very black and crispy. Our apple strudels had raisins cinnamon  and brown sugar. This gave them the flavor and sort of like a toffee inside. We served our strudel with ice cream and it was delicious. I would improve our peach polenta cakes by maybe adding lemon zest or juice and to improve our strudel I would get rid of the raisins and make sure the oven is set properly.

My Advice – English work

Dear Basketball Girl,

I feel for you I know learning new things can be difficult and it definitely does not help that  your teammates are not supporting you. I know quitting seems like it’s the right idea but if you really enjoy basketball and your really wanna learn I think you should continue playing basketball. You have to show your coach that you are good and do not let the others bring you down. Maybe you could take up some of your time after school and focus on Gaining more skills because as you get better you will get more confident.

To fix your problem with the other team members you have to realise that this sport is also there favourite thing and they have probably worked very hard for there spot and they still definitely should not be bullying you but don’t let that get to you and eventually you will get better and more confident enough to stand up for yourself.

Remember if you really want something, set your mind to it and work hard to achieve this.

Hope this helps

Novel study – Tomorrow When the War Began

For the last week we have been reading a book about a group of friends who are camping out in the bush for a week, at the moment the book seems a little interesting. It is written like they wrote it after all the events and is like Recapping what happened.

So far the friends have spotted lots and lots of planes flying close overhead and the planes have no lights on. The group thinks the planes are heading over for commemoration day but I think they are flying overhead to start a war, To make bases in a small town so it’s more stealth and secret better for a surprise war.

My favorite thing about the book so far is how each one of the characters are different and they bring their own advantages and disadvantages. They have made it so each character can bring their own unique ideas to the mix and It makes room for character improvement

I think this book will be quite interesting.

Human Rights – Social Studies

The human rights declaration and the treaty of Waitangi  are both completely different and so similar they both represent peace and working together, and trying to eliminate discrimination. The treaty is about the rights the Maori will get if the British crown becomes their queen, when The Human Rights are the rights that every human in the world is entitled to no matter who they are. Both of the documents are things agreed between all parties, not just one.
